There are several different types of poker games, depending upon the type of poker game and the level of risk taken by the players.

Types of Poker

Flop

This is one of the most common types of poker game. The turn is the third card dealt and is the time when a player calls or re-deals a hand that has just been dealt.

High Stakes

The highest stakes in poker are those that do not allow players to lose any money. The minimum amount a player can bet is usually $100, but can go up to as much as $10,000.

Low Stakes.

At the lowest stakes in poker, a player can only bet $1 or $2. It is the least risky form of poker played in casinos.

First Hand Poker

The first hand of a hand usually refers to the first round of play in a game. It is also called Full Flop Poker. This type of poker is played with four cards dealt to each player.

Four-of-a-Kind

Four-of-a-Kind is a hand that has the same amount of cards as the other cards dealt. This can be played at the highest stakes.

Bluff

Bluff is a certain type of bluffing when players try to appear to have a certain type of hand when they do not really have the card they are bluffing about. Bluffing requires a player to think about their hand so hard that it would be impossible to see any cards that they have. Players use bluffing to make the game more exciting for them.

Three card poker

Three-card poker is also played with a minimum of five cards. The playing method is very simple, as players can only win by being able to get three cards that they require to be a winner. Each of the three cards is of a different rank, and the ranking goes from Ace to King, King to Five, and Five to Ace.

Schoolmaster Poker

Schoolmaster poker is also played with a minimum of five cards. But this variant differs from Five-card poker, as a player has to get three of a number of different cards in a row. The cards used in this variant are made up of a wildcard, a joker and a standard card.

Grade Poker

In Grade poker, the round of betting is called a “Grade”, which is from A to S. Each player has a chance to get a Grade higher than the one he has, which means that when a player calls the Grade of his opponents, he stands a chance of winning.

Lowball Poker

In lowball poker, players have to ask for a low-ball offer from the dealer. The table stakes for this game are so low, that players can make many lowball offers, and can win any money they want when the deal is made.

Five Card Draw

The game of five card draw is played with a minimum of five cards that are used to make a poker hand. The dealer has a number of these cards which can be used to make a different poker hand. There are different ways of playing this variant, and each of these ways are explained below.

  • Five card draw with a “permutation”

In this variant, the first five cards dealt to each player are made up of different permutations, but the total number of permutations cannot be more than five. Each player has to choose one of the permutations to make his poker hand. The three cards dealt to each player are denoted as the wildcards in this variant, and the player gets to show his hand to other players.

  • Five card draw with a “pile”

Here, the first five cards are the wildcards from the previous variant. Now, each player has to show their hand to other players. A wildcard is a card with the same rank as the wildcard the player chooses, while a pile is a card that the player chooses to show.

  • Five card draw with a “double flush”

Here, the five cards are made up of different double-flushes from the previous variant. The five cards are shown to other players, and the one with the highest total value wins the hand.

  • Five card draw with a “traditional flush”

In this variant, the first five cards are the wildcards from the previous variant. Now, each player has to show their hand to other players. A wildcard is a card with the same rank as the wildcard the player chooses, while a flush is a card that the player chooses to show.

Stud Poker

Stud poker is also played with a minimum of five cards. The rules of this variant are very similar to those of Three-card poker, with the only difference being that each player has to get four of five cards that are used to make a winning hand. A dealer plays the role of the “yardage”, or the dealer, and all of the players must keep track of their cards and see the dealer’s hand.

Community Card Poker

This variant is very similar to five card draw poker. One of the main differences between Community card poker and Five-card draw is the way the cards are played. In Five-card draw, the players can see each other’s cards, while in Community card poker the cards are not visible to each other. Another difference is the place of the player in the play. In Five-card draw, the players are arranged in rows in a circle, but in Community card poker, players sit in a circle.

Five card draw with an “ending”

In this variant, the last card is the wildcard, and the dealer can win any money they want. The table stakes for this game are so low that players can make many wildcard offers, and win any money they want when the deal is made.

High-Low Split

This variant is very similar to Three-card poker. Two players are dealt five cards each. Each of the players has to keep track of the other’s cards and see the other player’s hand.

High-Low Split with two wildcards

There are two ways to play this variant:

  • The same way as Three-card poker, but with only two players
  • The opposite of three-card poker, but with three players

Odds Poker

This variant is very similar to Five-card draw poker, but a certain rule changes every time a poker hand is played. As soon as the dealer makes a card, the player can get another card and keep their hand. A modified version of this game is also called Siphoning Poker.

Hand Poker

Hand poker is a variant of Five-card draw poker, but only the first card is dealt. Each player gets to keep their card, and the dealer is only allowed to see the first three cards dealt to him. As soon as the dealer makes his hand, the next player can see his hand. A variant with the opposite rules is also available.

Hand poker in Thailand

The game Hand Poker was originally introduced in Thailand, and is also called Bang Laek, Thai Five Card Draw Poker. Nowadays, players can also play with high-low split rules. It is also common to play Hand Poker with two hands, and the player that has the higher high hand receives 2x the number of the lower high hand, for example:

  • Player A – 4 , 3 , 2
  • Player B – 2 , 4 , 3 , 2

The lower high hand is the value in the hand, and is awarded for the drawing of a high card.

Seven Card Draw

Seven card draw is also a variant of Five card draw poker, and can be played with two players. It is very similar to hand poker, but there are several differences. A loser in hand poker is the player who doesn’t have any cards left on his or her hand. In the variant Seven Card Draw, there is a discard rule where, for each turn the player must choose whether to keep or discard a card.

If the player chooses to keep the card, they keep a card, and if they choose to discard, they lose the card. A possible hand game in this variant is called ‘unrung’, which is similar to Siphoning Poker. On any turn, a player can either keep a card, keep it in his or her hand, or discard it. Once you discard a card, the next turn you can choose to keep or discard a card.

Every player’s turn is divided into two sections, before and after the discard phase. During the ‘before the discard phase’, you can only keep a single card, and you have to decide whether to keep it in your hand or to discard it. At the end of every turn you have to decide whether to keep or discard a card and keep the current card you are holding.

During the ‘after the discard phase’ players can only keep a single card and cannot keep any more. The winner of a game of Seven card Draw is the player who wins the most cards on the table, either the hand, or the total cards they have in their hand, although you are also able to win if you win the hand.

It is easy to understand the game, but it is quite difficult to play well. The standard rules are easy to explain, but the gameplay depends on the personalities of the players and the current luck of the cards.

For example, two players who always try to have the highest hand will usually try to place each other at the bottom of the board, in order to gain more cards. One example is that if one player has six and the other player has four cards, it is best to place the one who has six cards on the bottom of the board.

Chips

A poker chip is a token that is used in all forms of poker games. It is used in place of a traditional cash. The difference between a poker chip and a real dollar is that, a poker chip is a certain size, has the picture of a poker table on it, and usually has a certain number of icons like hearts, diamonds, or a cowboy that represent poker chips.

A real dollar is the same size and shape as a poker chip, but usually has a different amount of information on the back. There are a number of popular poker video games that are played on mobile devices. Some of these games are the most popular card games on mobile devices. These games have become very popular among professional players.

Poker Table Games
